Schloss Lölling is the imperial hunting lodge that belonged to Franz Ferdinand (1863 – 1914), Archduke of Austria-Este, Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia, heir to the Habsburg’s Austrian-Hungarian throne and the wealthiest man in Austria. His assassination in Sarajevo was the cause of World War I.

With the property comes a collection of exquisite furniture and art works, that include valuable carpets, Louis XVI furniture, Italian gilt-wood consoles, 25 chandeliers, 17th, 18th,  19th and 20th century paintings and other artworks incl. litho’s by Joan Miro, marble sculptures representing the four seasons, an 18th century French  “boulle” clock, an 18th century pair of Italian gilt-wood console tables etc.

Each space of Schloss Lölling is unique. The magnificent style is characterized by every single piece of furniture.

Apart from central heating, the ground floor and first floor, each with 510 m² living space, have 5 traditional stoves and the ground floor also has an open fireplace.

All details as well as doors, floors, walls and windows have been restored or renovated individually with passion and artistic skills.

The floors are parquet and the attic with its 500 m² large area has a stone floor and two huge working fireplaces, thus offering space for any imagination.

The Archduke Franz Ferdinand obtained the property in 1886 and he remained the owner until his death. Franz Ferdinand was a passionate hunter and the precision and speed with which he shot was legendary. Lölling and surroundings was at that time considered to be the best hunting ground in Europe. The Archduke spent part of his honeymoon at Schloss Lölling in August 1900. His children remained owners of the property until the 1960’s and they spent their 3 months summer holidays here.

Location/Leisure

Lölling is part of the municipality of Hüttenberg and lies in the heart of Carinthia, the southernmost Austrian stateor Land. Situated within the Eastern Alps (Saualpe) it is noted for its mountains, forests and lakes.

Close to Schloss Lölling there are two restaurants, a small supermarket and a small school.

In just 10 km from Lölling you find a supermarket, school and a medical center. Within 30 minutes you reach the flower city Saint Veit with its old town and many shops and restaurants. Every Saturday there is a food market with products from Austria, Italy and Slovenia.

From Lölling it takes 40 minutes to Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia with an international airport and the warmest lake of Austria, the famous Wörthersee. The Capital of Slovenia Ljubljana and Northern Italy are just a 2 hours drive, Venice 4 hours.

At 8 km from the property is the charming ski-area Klipitztoerl.

Carinthia has 8 excellent golf courses, such as the Carinthia Golf Club Dellach, one of Austria’s three oldest golf clubs. It is situated on the southern shores of the Wörthersee, nestling in an extremely imposing landscape.

In the summer it is an ideal place for hiking. With its abundance of game (wild boar, deer, mouflon, hare, partridge and pheasants), the imperial hunting lodge Schloss Lölling offers unique opportunities for hunting in autumn. It is possible to lease hunting grounds.
